lotus banana: the flower
of Musella lasiocarpa, native to the Yunnan province of
China, resembles a lotus before opening, hence its common
name. Useful, just not for eating. Strangely it’s a close relative of banana, but not
edible in the same way. The underground stem (rhizome) is eaten as a
vegetable, its flower is used for honey and it is sometimes
fermented for wine making. Its leaves are used as pig fodder and weaving
material, and it has several medicinal uses.

We had an ice-cream before catching trains quickly
at Kew Gardens Station. I had a 15 min. wait at West
Hampstead.
